Speech Analysis Assignment:
Spend 10 – 20 minutes watching/listening to speeches from Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. I have provided a variety of speeches below. Pick any of them to watch. You can watch just one speech from each person or a few minutes from multiple speeches. Just make sure you watch at least one from each individual. When you are done complete the following reflection questions and upload to teams.

Malcolm X:
Ballot or the Bullet
Message to the Grassroots
By Any Means Necessary
Prospects for Freedom

MLK Jr.
I Have a Dream
I Have been to the Mountaintop
Our God is Marching On
The Other America

  1. Compare and contrast the speeches, think about Ethos, Pathos and Logos.
  2. Which speaker is more influential? Why?
  3. How would these speeches be received in our society today?
